The GPT Group is one of the largest diversified property Trust’s in Australia and are part owner and manager of the Wollongong Central shopping centre. GPT on behalf of the Owners have commenced an 18,000m2 expansion in December 2011.
Ecologically sustainable design is at the core of GPT’s consideration of design and development. As such, GPT are using the Ecological Footprint as one of the Sustianability meaures for the project.
The Footprint Company are undertaking and managing the Ecological Footprint process and setting targets, developing design and management strategies and measuring the results. The proactive application to retailer fitouts will also be pursued with The Footprint Company Retail Fitout calculator.
The project aims to reduce its ecological footprint by 30% as compared to a standard NSW regional shopping centre.
This is equivalent to 2.3 planets worth of productive resources as indicated below. While the quoted design has achieved a total ecological footprint of 2.7 planets as at December 2011, the project team is investigating design opportunities to help achieve the 2.3 stretch target outcome.
